What PAT testing is
PAT stands for portable appliance testing. Each appliance with a plug, such as kettles, toasters, lamps and heaters, gets a visual check and an electrical test. Anything that fails is flagged so it can be repaired or taken out of use.
Who it's for
- Landlords who supply appliances with a let property.
- People working from home whose employer or insurer asks for it.
- Small offices, studios and holiday lets run from a home.
What you get
Each tested item gets a label, and you get a written record of everything tested and the result.
Common questions
How often should appliances be tested?
It depends on the appliance and how it's used. We'll recommend sensible intervals for your situation.
Do you need to unplug everything?
Each item is unplugged briefly while it's tested, then plugged back in.
