Signs your house may need rewiring
- Old cable with black rubber or fabric covering, often found in homes wired before the 1970s.
- Round-pin sockets, or sockets mounted on the skirting board.
- No earth on the lighting circuits, which matters if you want metal light fittings.
- Lights flicker or the power trips with no obvious cause.
- You're renovating. It's far easier to rewire before new plaster and decorating go on.
Full or partial?
Not every house needs a full rewire. Sometimes a few circuits need replacing and the rest is sound. Testing your existing wiring tells us which, and we'll give you an honest answer either way.
How the job works
- Survey and quote. We walk through the house with you, agree where sockets, switches and lights go, and agree what making good is included.
- First fix. New cables run through walls, ceilings and under floors.
- Second fix. Sockets, switches, lights and the consumer unit go in.
- Testing and paperwork. The whole installation is tested. You get an Electrical Installation Certificate, and we register the job with Building Control for you.
Common questions
Can we stay in the house during a rewire?

Do you do the plastering and decorating?
We'll agree up front exactly what making good is included in the quote, so there are no surprises.
Is a rewire notifiable?
